YOUTH AS AN AREA OF MINISTRY IN 2010

At VCC, few things are higher on our list of priorities than ensuring that our youth are brought up as God desires.  (Ephesians 6:1-4)  As a demonstration of that commitment, our first staff positions (both part- and full-time) will be focused upon our youth.  It is important to note that youth ministry is not limited to staff nor is it limited to those who currently have children in their homes.  Faith should be passed from generation to generation with older members serving as mentors to the younger.  All are encouraged to be involved in this ministry in some way.   If you have a desire to be involved in any of the works listed below, please contact the shepherd or deacon responsible for the work (above).

MONTHLY DEVOTIONALS

Each month the VCC youth gather following a Sunday evening service to spend time in devotional and fellowship.  Ideally, these are held in the homes of Christians. 

     HOW CAN YOU HELP?

• By serving as host for a monthly devotional

• Through sharing your experiences as a speaker or song leader at a devotional

• By providing transportation or acting as chaperone at an event
   

SENIOR BANQUET

Each year in April or May the congregation hosts a banquet in honor of our graduating class.  This serves a number of purposes, including a "rite of passage" from the youth group, but it also gives families the opportunity to celebrate this major milestone with their spiritual family.

     HOW CAN YOU HELP?

• By helping plan the event (decorations, theme, etc.)

• Cooking

• Preparing the facility (setup, cleaning, etc.)

SPECIAL EVENTS

Throughout the year a number of special events are held, specifically for our youth.  These are opportunities to help in the growth and development of our children and teenagers.  Some events are also designed to promote evangelism and outreach to this demographic.  These events include, but are not limited to the following:

• Community Egg Hunt (Spring)

• Youth Outreach University (conducted in Conway during January)

• Summer Camp (volunteers, counselors, cooks, etc.)

• Area-Wide Devotionals with area congregations

• Outreach University (conducted in Cookeville, TN during August)

• Vacation Bible School

• Bible Story Time (for preschoolers during the summer months)

OTHER?

The most valuable servant is the one who has the ability to recognize that something needs to be done and the ACTS on that need.  You may well recognize a need that no one else has noticed.  If so, please act on that particular item.  Don't wait for someone else to see the need and ask for your help.  If you find yourself in this situation, the please speak up!  Your help is desperately needed!
