MISSIONS AS AN AREA OF MINISTRY IN 2010

     SHEPHERD: Marty Knight

     DEACON: Patrick Fay

CONTACT FORM (To be completed if you have questions or want to volunteer)

The Vilonia church is, itself, a mission effort.  Members of this congregation possess the same heart for missions that was held by the first century Christians.  (Acts 9:31; Acts 11:19-31; Acts 13:4)  While it is our goal to practice "mission evangelism" right here at home in our own community, VCC also supports a number of mission efforts around the world.

In addition to supporting missionaries who take the gospel to other countries, Christians from the Vilonia are active in these efforts and are personally invested in the various works.  VCC supported efforts in several countries during 2009, including  Costa Rica, Italy, Mexico, Panama, and Romania.

The shepherds and missions committee will consider any and all requests for assistance that are submitted.  However, we do encourage members of the VCC family to consider being involved in the works listed below.  If you have a desire to be involved in any of the works listed below, please contact the shepherd or deacon responsible for the work (above).

COSTA RICA

Each year during the month of June a team of American Christians travel to Costa Rica to support the churches in that country.  A number of works are conducted during this month, including a youth camp, evangelistic efforts, and English courses.  This work is directed by Robert Swain and those involved in Gospel Opportunities.  This mission effort is focused upon ministering to the needs of the Spanish-speaking world.  Oversight for the ministry is provided the by shepherds of the Mars Hill Church of Christ near Vilonia, Arkansas.  The Vilonia church also provides personal financial support for the Swain family on a monthly basis.

     HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • By being personally involved and traveling to Costa Rica as part of a mission team

  • Supporting the mission effort through preparation of materials to be used by the team

  • Translation of materials from English to Spanish

ROMANIA

Marty Knight, one of the shepherds for the Vilonia church, has been involved in mission efforts to the eastern European country of Romania since 1997.  Along with his father, Ted Knight, he co-directs an effort that is overseen by the elders of the Levy church in North Little Rock, Arkansas.  The church in Cluj-Napoca, Romania is being supported by this work.  Two events in particular need personal involvement during 2010 and the years to follow.  Information is listed below.

     HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • By providing financial support for the operation of facilities or to help offset living expenses for the minister to the Cluj church

  • Through personal involvement in any of these events:

  1. Annual Christian Retreat - held during the spring in a rustic mountain setting with Christians from across Romania

  2. Vacation Bible School - held during the month of July each year

  3. English Lessons - workers are needed throughout the year to teach using curriculum provided by World English Institute

DOMESTIC MISSION EFFORT

An opportunity for domestic missions will be set for 2010.  The purpose of this effort will be to provide youth with an opportunity to become involved in missions.
